What is a Blue (Mechanical Pipe Fitter) JIB Card?

The Blue (Mechanical Pipe Fitter) JIB card is intended for fully qualified pipefitters who have the training, experience and Health and Safety certifications necessary to work on a construction site or other carded area relatively unsupervised.

What qualifications will I need?

To gain a Blue (Mechanical Pipe Fitter) JIB Card certification, you’ll need to have achieved a Level 2 NVQ of a Pipefitting, Plant & Systems Installation, Marine Engineering or Refrigeration and Air Conditioning type, or a similar City and Guilds certificate.

Accepted qualifications include (but are not limited to):

  • Diploma Heating & Ventilating – Industrial/Commercial (6188)

  • EAL NVQ in Marine Engineering (Pipework)

  • EnTra NVQ in Joining Materials by Welding

  • Heating & Ventilating (Industrial/Commercial) (6008)

  • Heating & Ventilating (Industrial/Commercial) (6018)

  • Heating & Ventilating (Industrial/Commercial)/Ductwork (6088)

  • Performing Engineering Operations (2251)

  • Refrigeration and Air Conditioning (6017)

  • Refrigeration and Air Conditioning (6087)

  • City & Guilds Craft Certificate in Basic Engineering (Fabrication & Welding)

  • City & Guilds Craft Certificate in Marine Plumbing

  • City & Guilds Part 1 in Basic Engineering (Fabrication & Welding)

  • City & Guilds Part 1 in Welding Craft Practice

  • HM Dockyard Certificate of Craftsmanship

  • Level 2 ECITB IPS Pipefitting

This is not an extensive list – you may be eligible for this card if you hold similar qualifications.

How long is the certification valid?

The Blue (Mechanical Pipe Fitter) JIB Card is valid for five years and can be renewed.

What is the next step?

Those operatives who wish to move on from their Blue (Mechanical Pipe Fitting) JIB card will want to seek their Gold (Mechanical Pipe Fitting) JIB card.
