The Construction Skills Certification Scheme was created to reduce the number and severity of workplace accidents and injuries in the UK’s construction industry. It soon became obvious that there are specific sections of the construction industry that have unique or very specific safety and training requirements (such as demolitions). As a result, the CSCS Affiliate cards were created to ensure that each section of the industry had appropriate HSE and training standards, but still fell within the universal CSCS Scheme.
Today, nearly all employers in the UK’s construction industry require new hires in the demolition field to have the appropriate CCDO card before they can begin work on-site, and in many cases before they will be considered for a position.
There are several different types of CCDO cards available (Red, Green, Gold, Black and two Blue types), and each has different requirements. For example, the Red CCDO card will requires you to be registered for an NVQ and to have passed two other courses. At the highest level, the Black Card requires a Level 5 NVQ and two other courses. You should see the entry on this website for each individual card to learn all the details.
If you have the equivalent qualifications from another country, they must be recognised by UK NARIC for the purposes of your CCDO Card.
Different CCDO Cards are valid for different lengths of time, and you should see each card’s entry for detailed information.
The Red, Gold, Black and one of the Blue cards are renewable at regular 5 year intervals, whilst the Green and the other Blue cards are considered temporary, and should be replaced with a Red (or permanent Blue) card as soon as the relevant NVQ requirements have been met.
In general, it takes 30 working days after we have received all of the paperwork and certification information for you to receive your card.
Call us or apply online to get a duplicate card. If your original card was still valid you will be issued a replacement card without any additional testing or certification.
Renewing a (permanent) CCDO card which is about to expire is a simple process, essentially identical to applying for a new card. That means you’ll have to take the HS&E test again and the required courses depending on the card type.
