What is the course?

The CPCS A31 Ride on Roller course provides novice candidates with the skill set and theoretical knowledge in how to operate a Ride on Roller.

Course content

  • Knowledge of pre-start procedures, checks during running of machinery and shut down mechanisms
  • How to set roller for travel
  • Awareness of hazards on site
  • Procedures for compaction duties
  • Knowledge of out of service condition
  • Recognise areas that are compacted/uncompacted
  • Safety procedures regarding unsupported edges
  • Understanding causes of roller instability
  • How to load and unload on and off a transporter

How is the course taught and assessed?

The CPCS A31 course is taught to candidates via a mixture of practical tests and theoretical discussion in the classroom. Candidates are assessed via theory and practical examinations.

Who should take this course?

This course is ideal for novice operators who have received no formal instruction in how to operate a Ride on Roller.

What qualification will I receive?

Upon completion of the CPCS technical tests, candidates will be awarded a CPCS Red Trained Operator Card and the CITB National Construction College certification.

Entry requirements

Applicants to the course must have a good knowledge of both written and spoken English, as well as having passed a CITB Health, safety and environment (HS&E) test within the last two years.

What can I do next?

Upon completion of the CPCS A31 course candidates may want to take assessment to gain a Level 2 NVQ/SVQ, which leads on to a Blue Competent Operator Card.
